Driving through France in a classic or sports car can be a very enjoyable experience. The French country roads are great for relaxing motoring and are normally peaceful in comparison with those in the UK. The North of France in particular is very accessible to those of us in the South East and is ideal for a short break. Why not drive your “pride and joy” around Normandy, Brittany or perhaps tour the wonderful Loire Valley home to many stunningly beautiful French Chateaux? For a touch of glamour, and only just over an hour from Calais, is the fashionable town of Le Touquet, ideal for a wonderful day out/weekend. Le Touquet “Paris Plage” is very popular with escaping Parisiens due to its fabulous wide beach, fashionable designer shops and smart casino. Tres chic! Northern France is also home to a number of small motor racing circuits where track days/motor sport events are regularly held offering surprisingly excellent value for money. A very accessible circuit from Calais is the Circuit de Croix-en-Ternois. A number of British motor racing clubs/societies hold an annual event or two at such circuits giving their members the chance to compete somewhere different from their usual fixtures. Of course for bigger motoring events, where better than the legendary Le Mans 24 Heures or L’Age d’Or at Dijon-Prenois, an old F1 circuit, now famous for classic car and classic bike events. Finally, at the end of a wonderful day of motoring is the chance to enjoy some legendary great French food and wine. Bon appetit!
